Language
Italian is the official language. The second common language is English, which most teenagers use. The elderly are more likely to speak French the most.
Religion
Eighty percent of Italians are Christian, the other twenty percent are Roman Catholic. Another small percent of Italians are Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim. Though Italians don't go to church all the time, the Catholic church is widely respected. Vatican City is the home of the Roman Catholic pope and headquarters for influence in Italy.

Appearance
Italy is a major center of the European fashion industry. Many people dress in nice clothe following the latest fashion trends which would be popular brands. Women commonly wear makeup and jewelry. People with professional jobs wear formal clothe all the time. Seeing teenagers wear sneakers and jeans is usual.
Greetings
Italians have different ways to greet. Men and women greet each other by shaking hands. When in groups, Italians avoid crossing other people's handshakes. If a person has dirty hands he or she may offer a forearm, a finger, or a apology. When a man and a woman are introduced to each other, the man bows his head slightly and waits for the woman to extend her hand first.Close friends greet each other by hugging or by kissing on both cheeks. But in southern Italy the kiss on both cheeks between men is reserved for family members. Friends and family members say Ciao. Formal way are Buongiorno or Buonasera.
Gestures
The gestures are that people use many times hand movement while talking. For money they rub their thumb and point finger together. Men remove their hats when entering buildings. Cover their mouth when sneezing or yawning. Taking off shoes in front of somebody is impolite.
Visiting
Italians have long friendships and they enjoy visiting each other. They visit on holidays or Sundays. In villages people come to visit without announcement. The guest brings wine, chocolates or flowers. If the guest comes before dinner they have to stay for a meal for dinner or it would be impolite.
General Attitudes
Italians consider social interaction very important in their life. They try not to miss social events. They keep a good reputation with their friends. Humor, reliability, and success in business and social life is important for the people. Italians value their health, family, and financial security.
Family
Northern families are really friendly and always help each other if they can. Usually have one or two children. Southern families are larger and they live together or close to each other. When children grow up they get a job and parents may help with getting an apartment or a house. Also parents help to pay for education.
